Goodbye Ganguly! :(

End of Ganguly era??? Probably yes. I'm sure most of you would be happy for the decision (more so that India has won the 2 matches convincingly), but its definitely a hard one to digest.. just that he was not given a chance to prove as a batsmen alone, and not as captain..That too for ODI's. Dissapointing!

The selectors are again extremely short-sighted. They might say they are looking longterm (at the WC), by taking this decision. But the fact is, this decision has been prompted just because India won the 2 matches. This made it difficult for him to give a come back (whereas I believe Kaif would find a spot in the winning side).. Same sort of thing happened to Dravid in Colombo (was sacked since we lost). How stupid? All the more stupid because the selectors clearly say its harder for him to return if India keeps winning... The fact that had India lost he would have returned, and now that India has won, he stays out is extremely unwarranted and annoying..

Phrases I use most

nanri hai

torture pannadha
pain adikkadha
watup
arbit
vetti

adangu
nanba
giveup

Oh Man!

Is naming the blog such a difficult task.. I guess its easier to keep a name for your child, rather a name for your blog..

me tried so many combi's before I ended up with this one.. though I am not entirely satisfied, I think I will have to stick with it.. Me being the Vetti I am, thought I wanted something which means vetti, either in english or having the work vetti itself.

me tried more than these...

timepass
runofthemill
generally
justforfun
justbored
all combis of trash****
all combis of junk****
scrapbook
vettipayyan
vettidog
yadayadayada
yadayada
soso
noentry
noentity
letmein
letmerant
my god, even vettivelai

I understand most of these are pretty common, and should have guessed they would have been taken already, but hoped just one would click... had to settle down with alwaysvetti (vettiwork is up for the grabs)

Miss Managara Madras

Madras, recently known as Chennai, is integral part of my growth...If some one from north india, refers to the term "Madrasi", that would be me...

Born and brought up in Singara Chennai, me knows nothing other than Tam and life circling Madras. Though the last 4 years, I have been out of it, my heart is heavy longing to be back.. Having met a lot other indians from various parts of the country, I believe the birth place, and the place where you grew up is such a integral part of your character. Bombay folks for example, just say, they cannot imagine a better city than Bombay. In the various comparisons they make, they make you believe it is true. This is not true to Madras, Bombay or any other city/country. As Joey from Friends would sing "I miss New York, thats the only place that knows me, thats where home is, and thats where I feel I am myself".

I strongly believe, that is true with me and Madras. I am myself, probably only there. I consider any other place alien to me. Sometimes I wonder, why I am, in a hugely different vast country, varied culture, and lifestyle. Money is it? Or career? Or just coming out of the box? I am not sure.

Miss Madras much:

Miss first day first show Thalaivar movies
Miss eating pani poori on the roadside
Miss Saravana Bhavan
Miss my yamaha bike
Miss traffic
Miss Pollution
Miss Chaos
Miss Marina
Miss Cricket
Miss Tamil Cinema
Miss Tam Politics
Miss Cable TV
Miss Friends
Miss Relatives
Miss Home
Miss Family!

I know I will be back, but how soon? I wish the soon comes sooner!

Moral Policing

What up with tis moral policing? I had heard nothing of it before now.

Me go google. I realized I am far from home, becoming poorly informed. So much seems happening? Me read "Chennai-The latest victim" .. What? If Chennai was latest, where else does this happen?

After ssome research, now I get it.. Moral Policing: Policing anything that is immoral. Sounds half decent, as long as it is well defined of what is moral and what is not.

More googling lead me into the new world of westernization in India, and its (a)effects.. It had started with this news article:

http://dinamalar.com/2005sep26/imp7.asp

Some crazy media freak had pictured these at Park Hotel Chennai, leading the most dramatic of incidents to follow... Tamilnadu police, the overworked, underpaid bunch, make swift action, by arresting a few, revoking licenses and issuing a public warning. It is also known, that they tried to arrest the women in the fotos for drinking, smooching and dancing!

Dont's according to the Moral Police:

No kissing in public area (if u think this is absurd, just hold your breath)
No lovebirds hanging around "private" public areas, without parental concern.
Pubs shud close by 11 am (I tot that was reasonable)
Now for the funnies,
No jeans, tshirt inside Universities
The funniest!
No dark (red) shirt to be wore by male students.. Seems red attracts!! Ha Ha!

I thought the days of JPR owned institution where he said "Boy Boy talk ok, Girl Girl talk ok, but nooooo boy girl talk!!!!!" were things of the past, I was grossly wrong. Those were just the start.

Many issues arise in similar tone,

The whole "Tamil Pride" issue, with movies not allowed to be named as they wish, Khusboo's recent statement (She assumed she had freedom of speech, how could she??), and now this. Is Chennai going to the dogs? Someone asks,...
